Many congratulations to Laura O’Brien (A.II), Kildavin, on winning a County Wexford Garda Youth Award, which was presented on Friday, March 31st, at Wexford County Council Buildings, Carricklawn, Wexford. In November last, Laura helped to raise €2,560.30 for Cystic Fibrosis Ireland with a Wear Purple fundraiser. She has CF but doesn’t allow it to interfere with her school work and life in general.
Wexford Gardaí say the response to the Garda Youth Awards has been ‘ brilliant’ and far exceeded their expectations, Inspector Denis Whelan said, “It is very encouraging to see how much young people in Co Wexford are achieving.” The awards in association with Wexford County Council, are aimed at young people between the ages of 11 and 21 (throughout the County) who will be recognised for their positive work and contributions to their community, or excelling in sports, or overcoming a serious illness or personal difficulty. The organisers ask for nominations from anyone who knows a young person who gives their own time to help others or makes their community or school a better place.
