Students, staff and management gathered in the Church of the Most Holy Trinity, Bunclody on the afternoon of Thursday, December 19th, 2013 for the annual FCJ Bunclody Christmas Eucharistic Celebration. The theme was ‘Waiting, Searching, Welcome and Recognition’ and Mass was celebrated by Fr. Pat Duffy, C.C. Kilmyshall. “Little Drummer Boy (Boys) / Peace on Earth (Girls)” was sung in harmony by all students at the Entrance. Teacher, Ms. Mary McIvor, sang the Responsorial Psalm, “Come, O Lord and Set Us Free”; other hymns and carols included, “Silent Night”, at the Offertory, and during Communion,“Oh, Holy Night” (Solo) and “When a Child is Born”, sung first as a duet and then by the whole school. The recessional was the beautiful carol, “Love Shone Down”. At the Prayers of the Faithful, we prayed that people would end their arguments and families their misunderstanding; that the world’s resources would be better shared so that none go hungry; that the church would play its part in creating happy and secure homes and towns and we remembered people who are sad this Christmas. We especially prayed that our FCJ school community would grow in companionship, dignity, excellence, justice, gentleness and hope as we prepared to welcome the Son of God into our world with joy. Among the items brought to the altar at the Offertory were a poinsettia, a reminder of the Star of Bethlehem; a candle that we lit to help dispel forever the darkness of hatred, violence and injustice in our world; A Team Hope Christmas Shoebox, representing gifts for the needy, and water from the River Jordan to remind us to prepare a way for the Lord, and to say ‘Yes’.
