Comh na nOg

Well done to Chloe Kavanagh, (Aidan II), a current  Student Council member, who was recently elected onto Wexford Comhairle na nÓg.   Comhairle na nOg is based around providing the young people of Ireland with a voice on their local issues, services and policies. There are 34 of these in Ireland and they have produced works on cyber bullying, mental health and sex education. Wexford Comhairle has prepared teacher resource packs on cyber bullying to help with discussion and awareness within the classroom, which will be launched shortly.   On the 20th November 2014 in Croke Park Dublin, Comhairle na  nOg held their showcase.  They also celebrated the 25th Anniversary of The UN Convention on Rights of the Child.    The showcase was presented by Kathryn Thomas and there were speeches from Taoiseach Enda Kenny, Paul Gilligan, Chair of the Children’s Rights Alliance and the Minister for Children & Youth Affairs, Dr James Reilly. Also three young people talked about their experience as Comhairle members.  Over the next two years Chloe will continue working on a project on Cyber Bullying and will also be assigned to other projects.
