cross c 1Following quite a long absence from the competitive Cross Country scene, 24 F.C.J. Athletes headed off to the J.F.K. Memorial Park in New Ross on the morning of Wednesday the 26th of November, to compete in a country cross country event.  The weather was dry but dew covered the ground.

To the surprise of many officials, the F.C.J. Team medalled in all categories they entered.   We don’t train in school for cross country competitions but overall the team brought home 5 individual medals and 8 team medals.

In the boys events Ciaran Kavanagh (2nd year) placed 2nd in junior. William Bolger (3rd year) came 1st in intermediate battling it out until the end with Jack Ryan (TY) close behind finishing 3rd.   In senior, Noel Mulhall had a brilliant race, but was pipped in the last 5 metres and placed 3rd.   This was a fantastic achievement as these races were over a distance of 1000, 2000 and 3000 metres respectively. The intermediate boys took home bronze in the team event.

In the girls events, Katie Byrne (TY) finished in 2nd place having been overtaken in the last few meters by a girl from St. Marys. The intermediate girls took home the silver medal in the team event. It was a great achievement by all involved and no doubt this will be an annual event that F.C.J. will participate in.
