Congratulations to Christian Grange (B.IV) of Ballon on winning 1st prize in the Senior cycle category of the 1916 History Project Competition, organised by the Education Centres in Ireland.   The competition was part of the Centres’ ‘Decade of Commemoration Initiative’ for Post Primary schools.

Christian’s entry truly captured the essence of commemoration for 1916 in this centenary year by creating a FaceBook account for his great-grandmother, Annie Norgrove (1899-1976).    Annie, aged 17, was a member of the Irish Citizen Army and was in the City Hall in Dublin during the Rising.    She was one of 77 women who were arrested and taken to Kilmainham Gaol but was among the first to be released.   Her father and sister also participated in the Rising.    Thanks to Christian’s History teacher, Ms. Simone O’Neill.
