Last year the students at the Le Chéile Conference considered how they could use their influence positively to bring about change that would make the world a better place.    They used the film, ‘Pay It Forward’, as a catalyst.   In the film, Trevor does a favour for three people, asking each of them to “pay the favour forward” by doing favours for three other people, and so on, along a branching tree of good deeds.   F.C.J. students, Caitlin Clauson & Aoife Murphy (both in 5th year now), were among the students who explored this idea with the aim of promoting social awareness and service to others.

Friday, the 15th of April, was designated as Le Chéile Pay It Forward Day.   One of our students, Caitlin, who had been at the conference in Athlone spoke wonderfully over the intercom for morning assembly informing all of the relevance of the day and asking everyone to get involved in simple shared activities with an investment of only time and imagination.

The day was very successful.   There was an exhibition in the front Hall and inspirational messages were put up around the school encouraging staff and students to carry out random acts of kindness.   A band made up of students from 3rd to 6th year played at lunchtime beside the tuck shop, which lifted everyone’s mood! A big Thank You to Karen Fanning in Saint Dominic’s, Cabra, for the beautiful PowerPoint – we made very good use of it.
