Many congratulations to Kate Power, Ballyrankin, of 5th Year on winning the Best Actress Award at the RTE All Ireland Drama Festival in Athlone on the 12th of May.   Kate is one of the youngest ever recipients of this very prestigious award. She had won awards at every festival on the way to the Athlone finals for her performances as Sister Agnes of God before mesmerising festival adjudicator, Mr. Geoff O’Keeffe, at the Dean Crowe Theatre.

The cast from the Bunclody/Kilmyshall Drama Group, also included past pupil, Mairéad Connaughton, who won many awards too for her performance as psychiatrist, Dr. Martha Livingstone.   The play, “Agnes of God” was written by an American, John Pielmeier, and is set in a convent in Quebec, Canada.

Well done to Kate who defeated many well known and accomplished actresses to win this very significant award.   The whole school community is delighted for you!

On May 24th at our Annual Prizegiving, Kate was presented with the “Pat Connaughton Arts Award”.
