Students at the grave of Daniel O’Connell

On Tuesday 16th May, the TY students went on a History Field Trip to Dublin. They visited Glasnevin Cemetery and the GPO. They were very impressed with their knowledgeable guides in both Glasnevin and the General Post Office on O’Connell Street. The TYs have been studying The 1916 Rising in class and were interested in seeing the graves of the people involved in The Rising, as well as seeing the headquarters of the rebels in The GPO. They were intrigued by Michael Collins grave as the guide explained that his grave is always covered in fresh flowers.   Since his death at the age of 31 on the 22nd of August, 1922, Michael Collins grave has remained the most visited in the cemetery.

The TYs would like to thank Ms. Rosemary Lawlor, Ms. Ciara Kenny, Ms. Ciara Grufferty and Ms. Simone O’Neill for organising and accompanying them on the trip.
