On the 21st of November, Ms. Simone O’Neill & Ms. Leanne Nolan (Co-ordinator in the school) and student, Leon Malone, attended the launch of the Pope John Paul II Award in this diocese in the Riverside Park Hotel in Enniscorthy.   Fr. Philip Mulryne, a Dominican Friar, and a former professional footballer with Manchester United and Norwich City, was the guest speaker at the launch.   He encouraged the young people present to make prayer a daily habit – making references to the daily football habits of David Beckham.   He said when prayer becomes a daily habit it leads to real hope and can lead to a life of deep fulfilment.   He also encouraged them to always hang on to their dreams.

The Pope John Paul II Award enables participants to take an active part in the life of their Church – in the life of their community and society. It enables young people become more aware of the teaching and role of the Catholic Church in the world and to engage at a deep level with Christ.    The Award was created to commemorate the late Pope John Paul II who was so committed to young people and who had such belief and confidence in them.

Fifteen of our students have taken up the challenge and are now working on their projects on Parish work and Social work.   Parish work includes Eucharistic Minister, Minister of the Word, etc.   The Social Work project includes Paired Reading, Nursing Home Visits, giving Computer classes, Youth Club Leader, etc.
