F.C.J.’s Meitheal Leaders and leaders from all over Co. Wexford were presented with their Certificates of Achievement at a ceremony in the County Hall Wexford on Tuesday January 16th.

Our past pupil, Ms. Barbara Anne Murphy, Leas Cathaoirleach of Wexford County Council, formally opened the ceremony and warmly congratulated and thanked the Meitheal Leaders for their work and dedication.   Mr. Michael Wall, Chairman of Wexford Local Development, congratulated the Leaders on their huge and committed role in creating a safe and secure environment for in-coming first years. He thanked them for their time as volunteers and hoped they would continue the spirit of volunteerism into the future. Ms. Marguerite Furlong, Founding Member of the programme, spoke of the importance of ‘belonging’ and the sense of connecting whether within school, community or county.

Many students participated in the ceremony which added to the atmosphere of celebration.   Our senior orchestra played and their excellent performance was very warmly received.   Also, 4th Year student, Niall Fogarty, Tullow, got a great reception for his singing of the Ed Sheeran song, “Perfect”;  he also played the guitar.

Meitheal is a leadership and mentoring programme which operates in 22 second level schools in County Wexford.   It is designed to educate, empower and support young people in their schools.
