Good Fellowship Award & FCJ Companionship Award

2018 Winners – Lisa Fortune & Sean Bookey

The Good Fellowship Award is the most prestigious award and the greatest honour that the school can bestow on a 6th Year student. The winner(s) join a select group of past pupils who have been worthy recipients of this Award over the years. By their outstanding display of personal qualities and support for school values, past winners have added to the integrity of this Award. It is considered very important that the successful student(s) be worthy recipients of the Award. The winner(s) must represent the best there is in the 6th Year group – someone in whom the 6th Years and the whole school community can take pride. In making nominations for the Good Fellowship Award, all 6th Years are asked to look for the following qualities among their peers :Leadership and Initiative Qualities : Someone who can take on a role and can be depended upon to see it through; takes personal responsibility rather than “passing the buck”.

Good Interpersonal Skills : Sensitively displays friendliness and support to other students and members of staff; has a level of refinement and good manners; positive outlook to life; co-operative and confident; pride in themselves.

School Involvement : Shows interest in, participates in and supports school activities, hardworking and expecting the best from him/herself;  Moral Courage : Strength and conviction to say and do what is right.

The Good Fellowship Award is a personal award given in the context of our school – an award for what the recipient has been to the school community during their time here and for what we hope they will be in the future.

The perpetual Trophy was donated by the Past Pupils Union in 1976.   In September 2009, at the formal handing over to the Le Chéile Trust, the F.C.J. Sisters presented the Companionship Award to the school. This was awarded for the first time in May 2010 to the Good Fellowship winners.

Following the 2018 Graduation Mass & Ceremony, Ms. Threadgold spoke about the Awards:

We now come to a very significant part of today’s ceremony when we bestow what is the school’s most prestigious award and greatest honour on one of our 6th year students.    The Good Fellowship Award is our tribute to the 6th year student who has been judged by fellow students and staff to have been outstanding in the school by their spirited commitment to its life and purpose.

The qualities of:  Showing leadership and initiative Good interpersonal skills;  School involvement and Moral courage are sought in the winner

As before the winner will also receive the Companionship Award presented to us by the FCJ Sisters. This beautiful piece is sculpted out of centuries old bog oak and symbolises the true companionship and friendship shown by this student towards his or her fellow students.    Once again the winner will join a select group of past pupils who have been worthy recipients of this award over the years.
