 Aims and Objectives

¨ To further the Christian and Educational objectives of the school

¨ To defend the right of voluntary secondary schools to exist and claim parity of treatment with state-run schools in a pluralist society.

¨ To promote the educational and general welfare interests of the pupils of the school.

¨ To inform and consult parents regarding school policies, plans and activities (However, the Council will not be involved in matters relating to the internal administration of the school.)

Over the years the  Council has organised visiting speakers for parents, lobbied T.D.’s, etc. and raised funds for many school projects, including:   Bursaries for 3rd level students;  Classroom for the F.C.J. Sisters’ school in Sierra Leone;  Mini-bus;  All-Weather Pitch;  School orchestra.

In the past, during our Annual Anti-Bullying week in May, the Council & management organised a Talk for Parents and the general public on  ‘Bullying Amongst Young People and Coping Skills for Parents of Teenagers’ given by Mr. David Coleman, the well known broadcaster & author.

The Council has been closely involved in the review of our CODE of  BEHAVIOUR and the school’s ANTI-BULLYING POLICY.   Council members were on the ACTIVE FLAG committee (presented to school in April 2015) and on the BLUE FLAG ANTI-BULLYING committee (presented to the school in October 2014).   The Council assists with the planning and running of the HEW (Healthy Eating & Fitness Week).

The Council was very active in fund-raising for the Senior Orchestra’s Trip to the USA in 2012 & 2016, organising and running a hugely successful Golf Classic for the 2016 trip .    During the exchange visit of the Band and Chorus of the Mount St. Charles Academy, Rhode Island, U.S.A., in April 2015, the Council members were available throughout the week to assist in the running of the various activities.    On the first evening of the visit, during the interval between a rehearsal and a “Live Mike” session, the Council provided home-made food and drinks for the visitors and our own orchestra students … feeding over 250 people with great good humour and no fuss.    At the public concert during the week of the exchange the Council organised and ran a raffle to raise funds to defray some of the costs of the exchange.

Council members catered for the audiences during the school’s bi-annual Musical in October 2015 & 2017, providing a very welcome hot drink and biscuits during the interval. This contributed much to the general feeling of the audiences being welcome in the school.
