Today marks the final day of the Leaving Certificate 2026. In fact, in the last hour or so, the last students left the exam hall📝📚🎓At the 6th Year Graduation this year we sang Abba's famous hit 'Slipping Through My Fingers' 🎶 This tells of a parent's nostalgia over how quickly their children grow up👶 'Schoolbag in hand, she leaves home in the early morning, waving goodbye with an absent-minded smile...Sometimes I wish that I could freeze the picture, and save it from the funny tricks of time...'⌛📸 Indeed how time has flown. From everybody here in FCJ, we want to wish each of you the very b#overandout #LeavingCert2026#schoolsoutforsummerg#BestOfLuckchoolsoutforsummer #bestofluck ... See MoreSee Less

With the Leaving Cert Chemistry exam taking place tomorrow, here's Ms Doyle's 6th Years completing their final experiment before they finished up👩‍🔬🔬 The task was to analyse the amount of chlorine in swimming pool water💧⚗🤔 A handy experiment that they can conduct again on their holidays. It's fair to say, the swimming pool in Albufeira won't ever have seen such studious people before!🧪🌊🏊 ... See MoreSee Less

At our end of year gathering the other week we bid goodbye to a long standing Faithful Companion - Liz Hudson🌟👋 Liz has been an SNA in FCJ for 25 years. She started at a time when our knowledge of needs was less, but Liz pioneered the way we care for the vulnerable students in our school🏫🚸 First step, and the most important, smile and let them know you’re there😊 Seems simple, but it takes a special type of person to do this. To put a child at ease when they feel out of sorts or are having a bad day. Liz was always on hand to help our students and that is something that we value so much here👏Liz is what you’d call ‘A Great Character!’ Her infectious smile, upbeat personality and ability to converse made her a staffroom staple! Over the years she was the life and soul of the staff parties, particularly at Christmas, often turning out to celebrate in a Ms Claus outfit!🧑‍🎄 (We have the photos, but you’re not seeing them!😅) This good humour always lent itself seamlessly into our classrooms. The kids felt safe with Liz in the room, knowing that she was there to help, and if you were stuck, she’d be straight to you!📚Sr Madeleine put the first SNA into our school many years ago now - Liz. Madeleine knew she had the right woman for the job. Someone that knew how to deal with kids in a fair and just way. As Mr Daly said the other day, Liz knew how to manage lads particularly, sure why wouldn’t she, she had five herself! (Which have passed through FCJ)🎓On behalf of everyone here, we want to wish Liz the absolute best in the future. We will really miss you, but we know you’ll call in again. Farewell, Ms Hudson!😁 ... The infamous annual Teacher vs Student soccer match got off to a roaring start this year⚽🏆🥳 Mr Doheny ( Who couldn't play this year due to a primary school parents' sports day related injury🤕) provided the €2 coin to decide tip off. Mr Fitzgerald opted to play down hill, working exactly into the hands (And feet) of the educators. A new signing for the side, Mr Doyle, was quick out of the traps beginning the aggressive attack style favoured in this game and secured the teachers first goal!💪Mr Earls proved a crucial part of the squad. The deputy dominated on the wings and the throws (He's the soccer equivalent to Joe Canning when it comes to sidelines), scoring the next goal🤩 The women teachers were thin on the ground this year (Ladies you need to tog out the next time!) However Ms Hanrahan, Ms O’Rourke and Ms Fitzgearld flew the flag excellently. In fact Ms Hanrahan only fell over 4 times this year👱‍♀️Mr G Farrell was the Bainisteoir running in fresh legs🦵 The substitutions were key for the staff squad. Mr Sinnott showing his bursts of tempo and Mr Gormley brought great additions to the field playing alongside his Economics student (And Irish International!) Ryan Butler🇮🇪 Of course Mr Farrell couldn’t play himself this year as he’s injured from carrying this Leaving Cert group through the school for the past 6 years!😅 His brother, Mr D Farrell was another key player with himself and Mr Byrne became late additions to the panel (Thankfully they had gear in the car!) In the end it was Tony Doyle who put up the threat, despite great defensive moves and shapes from Mr Warren, he slotted 2 past the teachers goal line🥅The game ended up in the teachers favour. Queries arose when Mr Kelly blew up the match with an alleged 25 seconds left on the clock, but sure he couldn’t see his watch from under the wig⏰🤔 A big thanks to the 2 linesmen, Kieran Donald and Simon Power, God knows it’s a thankless job, particularly when you have 1000 students screaming at you for giving sideline in favour of the teachers🏁👏Preparations for next year’s match are already under way, with rumours circulating that Principal Mr Daly will make a mighty return (Sure he’s a young lad at heart!) 5th Years, start training!🏃 ...
